Wax Carving Workshop
Carve your own ring. We cast it. You collect it.

Join us for a hands-on morning of wax carving at Montebello Design Centre in Newlands — a calm, garden studio space in the heart of Cape Town. Over 3 hours you'll design and carve your own ring from jeweller's wax, before having it professionally cast in your choice of metal and collected a few days later as a finished, wearable piece.

Led by Theresa de Jager — MA jewellery designer and maker with over 14 years of professional practice — and assisted by Ryan, our workshops are kept intentionally small so every participant receives personal guidance throughout. No prior experience is needed. Just come with a design idea and a willingness to make something entirely your own.

Before You Arrive — Your Design

To make the most of your time in the studio, we ask that you come prepared with a ring design idea already in mind. This doesn't need to be technical — a rough sketch, a reference photo, or a description of the style you're drawn to is all you need.

One week before the workshop, we'll be in touch by email to chat through your design and offer any guidance before you arrive. This means you'll be ready to pick up the tools and start carving from the very first moment.

Some things to think about ahead of time:
— Band style: flat, domed, tapered, wide, or narrow
— Surface texture: smooth, hammered, organic, or carved detail
— Overall form: simple band, signet, sculptural, or asymmetric

Choose Your Metal

Your wax ring is cast in your chosen metal after the workshop. All options are based on a max ring weight of up to 10g.

White Bronze — R1400
A bright, silver-like finish that polishes beautifully. A wonderful choice for a first cast piece.

Brass — R1600
A warm golden tone with excellent weight and character. Develops a beautiful patina over time.

Sterling Silver — R2200
Our premium option, beautiful white solid silver full of grace and elegance.  

Optional Upgrades

— Gemstone setting: from R300
— Gold plating: R150
— Engraving: quoted on request
— Carve a second piece: R600
— 9ct gold casting: quoted on the day

After the Workshop

Once you've finished carving, we take your wax ring to our professional casting studio where it is sprued, invested, cast in your chosen metal, and hand-finished to a polished shine. Your completed ring will be ready for collection approximately 7-14 days after the workshop. We'll be in touch personally to arrange this with you.

This is the same process used by professional jewellers worldwide — your finished ring is a genuine, wearable piece of jewellery made entirely by your own hands.

Booking & Payment

Full payment is required to secure your place. Spaces are strictly limited to 5 participants and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made 14 or more days before the workshop: full refund or transfer to another date
Cancellations made within 14 days: non-refundable
You are welcome to send someone in your place if you can no longer attend
